AMOVEMENT PROJECT
Amovement Project
To help you understand the philosophy behind Amovement, I feel it's important to share my background and personal training journey.
In my day-to-day life, some people inquire whether I have a background in gymnastics or dance. The truth is, my background is quite different.
During my childhood, like any child growing up in a small town in Spain near the countryside, I engaged in sports and was constantly in motion. However, in my adolescence, I went through a challenging phase marked by addictions and self-imposed limitations. For a number of years, I found myself immersed in nightlife, which not only failed to contribute to good physical condition but actually exacerbated the situation. Nonetheless, my interest in sports persisted, and I sought ways to exercise and stay active.
I ventured into martial arts, including kung fu and capoeira, for a few years, experiences that undeniably had a positive impact on my mindset. Over time, my fascination with the gym grew. I quickly realized that the exercises that brought me the most satisfaction were those utilizing my own bodyweight, such as pull-ups and dips.
I decided to pursue studies in sports, prompting a move to Madrid where, for the first time, I truly learned the value of discipline and unwavering focus. During this period, I trained in weightlifting and calisthenics. My approach to calisthenics was largely self-taught, as my studies and mentors primarily emphasized weightlifting. This led me to develop my own methodology, resulting in significant gains in strength, though my performance in calisthenics was a far cry from what it is today.
Upon completing my studies, I embarked on a journey of travel, seeking to distance myself from the negative influences that had surrounded me. I resided in Ibiza, Valencia, and ultimately London, where circumstances compelled me to focus solely on calisthenics, given my frequent relocations.
It was during this period that my passion for this discipline truly flourished. The various communities I encountered along the way motivated me to strive for excellence as an athlete.
Upon my return to London after a few years, my proficiency and knowledge had grown considerably, as I remained dedicated to both studying and training in order to refine my abilities. I began working at a studio called Lift the Movement, where I had the privilege of being surrounded by the industry's best. Here, I absorbed a methodology heavily centered on gymnastics, which, when combined with my existing knowledge, culminated in the approach you witness today.
Through this brief sports autobiography, I aim to underscore that sports should be an integral part of our lives. Regardless of circumstances, exercise is not an obligation; it is a fundamental human necessity for optimal function and development.
Calisthenics embodies the art of movement and mastery of one's own body weight. When executed with precision, it complements all other disciplines. Once you embark on this journey, it becomes a permanent fixture in your life, evolving beyond a mere pursuit to a lifestyle that drives you to become better, both physically and at a profound internal level.
